Once I get the lyrics to Lady Gaga’s Born this Way out of my head, this Hemingway quote reminds me of other sage life/career advice that is commonly spouted:

  • “Dress for the job you want; not the job you have.”
  • “Don’t let them see you sweat.”
  • “Fake it until you make it.”
  • “Act as if you belong.”
  • “Don’t let them see the fear in your eyes.”

At one point or other in my life, I have employed the wisdom in each of these sayings.  I am struck that it is ironic how I can easily recall situations where I have utilized each of these tactics, but I’ve never thought of applying some of the same ideology when it comes to my writing or blogging.

So starting now, I am going to claim I was born this way.  I will not show any fear when it comes to my writing and/or blogging.  I am going to add blogger to my LinkedIn profile.  I am going to fake it until I make it and act as if I belong; as if I am a writer without qualifying it with the word unpublished.

Now, I just need to figure out how a writer acts.  Ideas, anyone?
