This August is my second blogging anniversary – fromthestickstothebricksandbackagain started from a well-timed challenge issued to me by my friend Sam to try blogging for thirty days. She felt that I was wasting my writing talent and all needed to do was write, write, and write some more.
Sam’s challenge via email hit my inbox on the right day because I had been contemplating blogging but needed a push to get me started. I surprised her by how quickly I said yes with one stipulation that she help me create a blog name. We spent an afternoon coming up with a name; emailing each other names back and forth along with my two marketing friends Linda and Jennie until we reached a consensus on the name fromthestickstothebricksandbackagain.
Sam’s challenge worked. I am writing. I am writing more than I did in 2013 when this all started. I would say in that light I have successfully met the challenge. After two years, it’s time for a new challenge. I need to write (and post) on a more consistent basis. I need to develop a schedule that works for me and stick to it.
Enough of that for now. Let’s focus on my anniversary – blogiversary celebration. The WordPress blogging experience has been all about community for me – building a community of writers and readers. I have found this community to be both supportive and forgiving when I’ve experienced periods of not writing. For me, this has allowed me to pick up my pen and write (yes, I still write an incredible amount of my posts with paper and pen) after dry periods.
I’d like to focus on this community as I celebrate two years of blogging.
So what do I have planned?
I want to feature one guest blogger each day from Monday, August 10th – Friday, August 14th. The topics for the guest posts should be pertaining to blogging, writing, productivity or procrastination. If you are interested in being a guest blogger message me with the details of what you would like to write about.
Some topics that have come to mind are:
- using social media to promote your blog;
- editorial calendars and other blogging tools or best practices;
- using graphic design/photography in a blog if you are not a designer/photographer; and
- other “technical” aspects of blogging such as copyrighting your material or ways to use other blogging sites.
If there is a topic someone would love to learn more about, feel free to leave it in the comments section and perhaps one of our guest bloggers will address it in their post.
One of my favorite features in 2014 was my Follow Friday feature. I have not been able to continue it in 2015. For the week of my blogiversary I am going to publish a #FF post each day from Monday, August 10th – Friday, August 14th featuring one blog from the WordPress community I think everyone should follow. There will likely be a mix of bloggers I have and haven’t featured before.
On Saturday, August 15th, I will host a blogiversary party. The party will be a way for you to highlight a post or posts written by you and/or one of our fellow bloggers. This can be done in one of two ways WordPress or Twitter – details to follow.
