#WeekendCoffeeShare – October 11, 2015

coffee shareIf you and I were having coffee right now … I would ask you what is new in your world.  After listening to your response I would tell you how glad I am that we are able to get together on this glorious fall New England day.  I would ask you if you wouldn’t mind sitting at one of the outside tables so we could soak up some sunshine while we can still enjoy it.

If you and I were having coffee right now … you would ask if I was still as stressed as last time we had coffee.  I would tell you how my stress ebbs and flows.  I would tell you how I was still a bit overwhelmed but that I was beginning to remove some of the toxic projects and people from my life as a way of minimizing my stress.

If you and I were having coffee right now … I would tell you that there are at least two new projects on my horizon that I really want to start but that I realize I need to organize what is currently on my plate.  I would ask you if you had any tips for organizing my life you could share with me.

ghoulsIf you and I were having coffee right now … I would tell you about October on my blog.  I would explain that I am launching two guest blogging series: The October series, Ghouls, Goblins and Guest Bloggers was announced on October 3rd and an ongoing series will be announced on October 15th.  I would also tell you about my Facebook page promotion which was announced on October 1st and how easy it is to get multiple entries for the giveaway of Stephen King’s latest book, The Bazaar of Bad Dreams.

If you and I were having coffee right now … I would tell you about the social media workshop I attended this week.  Although it was intended to help me in my role as a  social media liaison for CREW Boston, I and all the other women attending walked away with tips we can use in our own personal and/or professional usage of social media.  There are two more workshops coming up, one next week and one in mid-November.  I am hoping that I get not only knowledge that helps me in my role as a social media liaison, but also in promoting my blog.  If I leave the workshops with that knowledge and perhaps an idea or two for future blog posts, I will consider it time well spent.

If you and I were having coffee right now … I  would tell you how after the workshop I took a walk through Downtown Crossing in Boston.  I visited the old Filene’s site, now Millennium Place, the location for my first Citizen Schools apprenticeship.  Almost five years from the date, I took my students on a field trip to that location so they could brainstorm ideas for what to do with the stalled development.  Five years later and Millennium Place, a project not unlike what they had imagined, is almost completed and my students are juniors and seniors in high school.

PicMonkey CollageIf you and I were having coffee right now … I would tell you how happy I was to get some Aunty and me time with my fourteen year old niece, Gianna, twice this week.  She came over my house and filled me in on the details and drama of freshman year in high school on Tuesday while my sister was at a PTA meeting for her younger sister’s school.

On Thursday, we went to the nail salon together and to dinner.  Our adventure came complete with some people watching.  Gianna whispering and texting her commentary to me while we watched a very misguided twenty something share the private and apparently not so private details of her life to two random strangers sitting across from her.  While we were all relieved to know that the twenty something, who claimed to be really good at reading people’s vibes, was not pregnant by her sort of ex-boyfriend who is in trouble with the law, Gianna made two very valid observations to me via text message.  She commented to me that although the girl claimed to be really good at reading vibes, she read her sort of ex-boyfriend’s vibe all wrong and that the girl was sharing too much.  “TMI, Secrets are not meant to be blabbed.”  I was relieved to know in spite of growing up in the digital age where people over-share all the time, Gianna has the common sense to know that some things aren’t meant to be shared publicly.

Well, I should get going,  I have some organizing to tackle.  Before you leave, please tell me in the comments what you would share with me  …

If you and I were having coffee right now …

  1. Sounds like your niece has her head screwed on.
I have a lot of trouble implementing changes in my own life but check list help. LIsts and breaking new projects into smaller chunks. Some external deadline is great too. If you divide your day up by meal times and visualise doing things then as you make the list. Beyond that, not sure. Good luck xx Rowena
