Saturday Shares – Nous Restons Unis (United We Stand)

Saturday SharesSaturday Shares is a feature on from the sticks to the bricks and back again that promotes deliberate re-blogging.  What is deliberate re-blogging?  A concerted effort to re-blog the posts of other bloggers deliberately and not randomly.  I have found that I am less likely to re-blog because I might be reading someone’s post at a time that is inconvenient for me to post or comment.  By saving links throughout the week, I can schedule my re-blogs instead of randomly re-blogging five posts all at once – a practice I find annoying.

Nous Restons Unis (United We Stand)

There I was standing in solidarity amongst my French friends as we gathered together to mourn a tragedy. For me, it was an attack on Paris and on humanity, but for them it had the added element of being an attack on home. We all felt a sense of loss, but the drive, the history and the emotion behind it varied. No one’s emotions are ever less than another’s, but they are, by nature, inherently different. I was standing in the crowd. It was an almost out of body experience. I was part of the moment but a bystander as well. I glanced around. Thousands had gathered. A sea of voices surrounded me, but they were speaking a language I only know pieces of.

Veteran’s Day Remembrance

Today is Veterans Day.

November 11th: The 11th day of the 11th month. The 11th hour of this day marked the end of World War I in 1918. My father, who was a veteran of the Vietnam War, used to mark that solemn hour by lighting a candle and sitting quietly in his church’s sanctuary.

Scandal In The Church Of Starbucks

I think it’s safe to say I’m not a coffee snob, in fact I hardly drink coffee (I’m a one cup in the morning type of guy).  But I have been inside the walls of St. Arbucks (as a friend of mine likes to put it).  It seems like a nice enough place to hang out.  There are tables, chairs, couches, coffee and snacks.  People are relaxed and engaged in either conversation, or their electronic device with their ear plugs in – removed from the rest of the world.  It’s a nice place to visit – but until this past week I had no idea that the “Christian world” considered Starbucks to be a church!

Want to know what Veteran’s Day is all about? Watch a soldier salute

If you want to know what Veteran’s Day means, watch a soldier salute.

Witness the arm. Crisp snap upward, precise elbow bend, right hand over right eyebrow.

Watch the hand. It won’t falter, no matter how wrinkled the skin, nor pronounced the veins. It will maintain a proud, perfect angle.
