It’s Friday.  Hooray!  The weather is beautiful as I sit on my front porch writing the last Follow Friday post of the week.  Hooray, hooray!  All week I’ve known that today’s Follow Friday post would feature a photography blog.  I considered re-highlighting a photography blog that I had previously called attention to on my blog; either The Adventures of An Urban Flower Girl, which I first featured on my blog in October, or f-stopmama, which I featured on my blog in November and January, are worth visiting again.

My guest blogger for today went missing. I turned to my WordPress reader and typed in Blogging and Blogging Tips. Catherine Zhang’s Never Stationary was one of the blogs that populated my reader. In lieu of a guest blog, I am re-blogging her post, 5 pieces of crucial advice for new bloggers. She offers valuable advice for both new and more experienced bloggers alike.

Follow the ebb and flow of writing.

I don’t think the term writer’s block is accurate, because for me, the desire to write comes in waves, in high tides and low tides. So ride the waves! Don’t ignore your instincts.

My Blogging Tips

I was short a guest blogger for today, so I went to WordPress reader and typed in Social Media and Blogging and discovered Dream Big, Dream Often. In lieu of a guest blog, I am re-blogging this blogging tips post from Dream Big, Dream Often. Hope you find at least one useful tip. I did!

Dream Big, Dream Often

So many people have been emailing me about blogging tips that I thought I would put together a post with a few of my tips. I am in no way an expert on blogging, so keep that in mind as you read.  On to the tips:

  • Produce good, original content (the most important tip!).   What do people want to read?  Or better, what is your purpose for    writing?  I was talking with Amusing Myself Musings a few days ago and we were discussing this very topic: content.  Often, if you are not getting readers, revisit what you are posting.  Find a topic people will be interested in reading AND returning!  My personal favorites are those blogs that talk about a topic of which I have no experience and/or is written from a personal perspective.  One of my favorites, to give example, is Power Plant Men.  I know nothing of power plants but I find…

Today’s Follow Friday post is about Community Building and I originally posted it on January 16th.  I was having a  hard  time  selecting just  one blog to feature again so I decided to re-blog the entire post.

This week I decided to focus on blogs that I consider to be pillars of the WordPress community. Bloggers who not only focus on their own writing but consider promoting others and building a community here in the blogosphere to be an integral aspect of what they do as bloggers. They are bloggers who realize that just like in our physical lives our virtual lives in the blogosphere are enriched and made stronger by belonging to a community.

I love my WordPress Reader.  I can type in any topic I’m interested in reading about and if someone in the WordPress community of bloggers has written a post about that topic it will appear in my reader.  For example, I just typed in my favorite dessert crème brûlée and voila there are posts to read like this, this and this.  I don’t know why I reserve crème brûlée for the rare special occasion at a restaurant and haven’t tried making it at home.

What a familiar story – I have a #FF blog post due today and I haven’t written it.  I have ideas floating in my head but I have not committed any of them to paper.  I should have written all five of these posts last week but I was elbow deep in cookie dough.  I baked cookies for each of my nieces last softball games of the summer and the youngest, Jenny’s team party.

The cookies came out great; the posts are just a bunch of ideas rattling in my head.
