Saturday Shares – Dear President Obama. May I Offer A Critique?

Saturday SharesSaturday Shares is a feature on from the sticks to the bricks and back again that promotes deliberate re-blogging.  What is deliberate re-blogging?  A concerted effort to re-blog the posts of other bloggers deliberately and not randomly.  I have found that I am less likely to re-blog because I might be reading someone’s post at a time that is inconvenient for me to post or comment.  By saving links throughout the week, I can schedule my re-blogs instead of randomly re-blogging five posts all at once – a practice I find annoying.

Dear President Obama. May I Offer A Critique?

NOTE:  I try to keep politics out of my posts. However, after observing many issues, I felt compelled to put my thoughts in a letter to our great President. I have always supported him and continue to do so.  He has had struggles as our POTUS and overall he has done many great things–there are just a few critiques that I have. Read on and you may agree or disagree but I welcome your thoughts because I truly desire a country united of her people!  Thanks and I hope to have given you food for thought! XOXOXOXO!

Dear President Obama,

I am writing this letter to you to give you my honest opinion on the last eight years that you have been the leader of our United States of America.  You will be delighted at some of what I have to say and you may not be delighted at other things I have to say, but what I have to say will give you food for thought.

Since I voted for you twice, I feel that as a citizen of our country, I’m validated in my opinion.

Three Husbands

Mom is sitting at her table across from Donald, and they’re smiling at each other. When she sees me, she beams.

“Hi Donald,” I say, as I lean over to kiss my mom.

“Is that his name?” she asks. “I’m so glad you told me!” She has an impish grin on her face.

They have their meals together every day, and they spend a lot of time sitting across from each other at their table between meals. I wonder if they ever get up.

“Let’s go for a walk, Mom,” I say. She needs the exercise.

“Okay,” she says, but she seems a little reluctant.

Weekend Coffee Share: Waiting for Peace during Advent Season

If we were having coffee, I would ask you to sit with me for a moment and chat about our difficulties in waiting. How do you like your coffee or tea?

Do you like to wait? I don’t. To me it is time wasted. I usually multi-task while waiting, by reading, doodling, deleting stuff from my phone…you know. I am very impatient. Definitely a character flaw.

Here in America

One week ago at this hour I was watching the details unfold – the terrorist massacres in Paris put France, front and center, on the world’s stage – again.  Since last Friday, November 13, our country has become divided – again.  My social media news feeds have exploded with diametrically opposing views on how we should approach the Syrian refugees.  My friends and my favorite pop culture sites have delivered everything from carefully constructed logic, to unbridled emotion on the topic. Truth be told, many of my favorite pop culture sites are no longer my favorites.  As for my friends, I certainly don’t mean to offend you here, so if we stand on opposite sides, I still appreciate your thoughts.

Dark Chocolate Brownie Pecan Pie

Forget the traditional pecan pie! Dark chocolate chips, dark chocolate brownie batter and dark chocolate sauce combine to form the base of this absolutely amazing Dark Chocolate Brownie Pecan Pie. It’s then topped with the traditional pecan pie filling and baked to pie perfection before being drizzled with even more dark chocolate sauce and topped with whipped topping and chocolate shavings!

Nous Restons Unis (United We Stand)

There I was standing in solidarity amongst my French friends as we gathered together to mourn a tragedy. For me, it was an attack on Paris and on humanity, but for them it had the added element of being an attack on home. We all felt a sense of loss, but the drive, the history and the emotion behind it varied. No one’s emotions are ever less than another’s, but they are, by nature, inherently different. I was standing in the crowd. It was an almost out of body experience. I was part of the moment but a bystander as well. I glanced around. Thousands had gathered. A sea of voices surrounded me, but they were speaking a language I only know pieces of.

Veteran’s Day Remembrance

Today is Veterans Day.

November 11th: The 11th day of the 11th month. The 11th hour of this day marked the end of World War I in 1918. My father, who was a veteran of the Vietnam War, used to mark that solemn hour by lighting a candle and sitting quietly in his church’s sanctuary.
